The 6-3 Zimmermman was a three-year starter at Champlin Park and earned all-conference honors as a junior and senior. He was named team MVP the past two seasons and was an all-state honorable-mention pick last season.

“I really liked the campus and the coaches up there,” Zimmerman said. “I have a couple of friends who go up there, so that was part of it too. It just seemed like a good fit.”

Champlin Park shocked in state quarterfinals

Standing on the stairway leading up the Champlin Park locker room at Target Center, Mark Tuchscherer still couldn't get over one number relating to what was a season ending loss for his boys basketball team in the Class 4A state quarterfinals Wednesday, March 24.

Surprisingly, it wasn't the 55 points St. Cloud Tech finished with in sending the Rebels home with a 55-51 defeat.

It wasn't the 11 free throws Tech senior Alex Hanks knocked down to all but finish off the Rebels either.

And it wasn't even the 30.8 field goal percentage his team clanked its way to in what turned out to be less of a surprising upset over the course of the next few days.

Rather, it was the 26 turnovers Champlin Park forced Tech into, and how in the world the Rebels pick-pocketed the Tigers to that extent, and still managed to lose.

"There is no way you could have told me we'd force that many turnovers and lose," Tuchscherer lamented. "No way."

Rebels fall in tournament opener

Champlin Park's boys basketball team struggled to make shots all day and couldn't overcome that in a 55-51 loss to St. Cloud Tech in the state Class 4A quarterfinals. Tech built a lead of 16 points in the first half before Champlin Park rallied to within six at halftime.

Champlin Park tied the game at 44 in the second half and had several chances to take the lead, but it was Tech hitting back-to-back threes to regain the lead at 50-44 on the way to the win. Champlin Park finishes with a 24-6 record.

Tigers get jump on Rebel forces

MINNEAPOLIS — They were loose, confident and not too caught up in seeds or rankings.

Heck, they played Lightning during their morning shoot-around.

They said they felt Champlin Park presented a favorable matchup, and the Rebels did.

It added up to a 55-51 state Class 4A quarterfinal win for the St. Cloud Tech boys basketball team.

"We knew we could play with them," Tech senior guard Scott Nystrom said. "We knew we could beat them."

The Tigers, however, certainly made things interesting.

Third-seeded Champlin Park (24-6) rallied from a 16-point deficit to tie it up a couple times in the second half, the last at 44-44.

MINNEAPOLIS — Alex Hanks scored 20 points and Scott Nystrom had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead St. Cloud Tech to a 55-51 win over Champlin Park this evening in the state Class 4A boys basketball tournament.

Unseeded Tech (26-4) plays second-seeded Eden Prairie (26-3) at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Target Center. Eden Prairie beat Owatonna 61-46 in another quarterfinal today at Target Center.

It's the third straight state semifinal appearance for Tech, which has taken third the past two seasons.

The Tigers led 36-30 at halftime over third-seeded Champlin Park (24-6), which was ranked second in the state. The Rebels were led by Kyle Zimmermann. The 6-foot-3 senior post had 16 points and nine rebounds.

Rebels hold off Orioles in section boys' basketball

Champlin Park defeated Osseo for the third time this season in a 69-62 Section 5 semifinal thriller March 16 at Rogers.

The Orioles played a strong first half and built a seven-point lead midway through the half. But the Rebels put on a late run to cut Osseo's lead to 29-28 at halftime.

The Rebels began to exert their physical style of play and carried the momentum into the second half. They began dominating the boards, took over the lead and the Orioles could not rally.

"We played very well in the first half but in the second half Champlin Park exploited our weak post defense," Osseo coach Tim Theisen said.

Osseo did not have an answer for the Rebels' senior center Kyle Zimmerman, who dominated the second half.

"Zimmerman did a really good job at taking our post players outside and posting them strong inside," Theisen said. "He scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half."

The Orioles never quit and hung within five, six points most of the half, but on this night they could not rally because their shots were not falling.

"Every time we played them this year, Champlin Park slowly built up five, six point leads with five, six minutes to go," Theisen said. " It was exactly the same in the section semifinal. Unfortunately, we didn't step up and hit shots when we needed to."

Theisen had said when the season began that his team is one of the best shooting team in school history and would depend on outside shooting to win games. But the Orioles could not find their shooting touch against the Rebels and shot just 29 percent from two-point range and 25 percent from beyond the three-point arch.

Senior Chris McMorris led Osseo with 15 points, junior Joey Sonnenfeld had 10, senior Aaron Anderson and eighth grader Ian Theisen each had 9, senior John Rowland had 7, and seniors John Bailey and Dalton Graff each had 6.

Champlin Park boys' basketball coach Mark Tuchscherer knew his guys were stinging from a 74-69 loss to Hopkins on Jan. 9, but he encouraged them by pointing out the game's larger significance.

The Rebels vs. Royals was one of six games played in the Gatorade Timberwolves Shootout, a one day basketball showcase held at Target Center -- the same venue that houses the Class 4A state tournament.

"Coach said to us, 'This won't be the least time we're here,'" senior guard Dillon Hager said. "We all believed him."

And here they are again. The No. 3 seed Rebels (24-5) open play at 4 p.m. Wednesday against St. Cloud Tech (25-4). Champlin Park owes its return trip to downtown Minneapolis to a group of seniors whose talents are rivaled by their teamwork. These Rebels are not drones who carry out assigned tasks. They are individuals with unique strengths and a collective goal.

The 3rd seeded Section 5 champion Rebels (24-5) will be taking on the Section 8 champion St Cloud Tech Tigers (25-4) at 4pm Wednesday March 24th at the Target Center in the state Class 4A quarterfinals.

The Tigers, who are currently on a 9 game winning streak, are not very big but are very good shooters from the outside and get most of their points from their perimeter players. They like to push the ball up the floor and then spread you out so that they can quickly take shots from the perimeter. They do nothing fancy and just play good sound fundamental basketball.

The Tigers are led by a very physical guard in Alex Hanks who is averaging 19 points and 6 rebounds a game. They have a very talented point guard in Scott Nystrom who is scoring 18 points a game and is a very good shooter. Thomas Korf is also averaging double digits (11 ppg) and is the team’s leading scorer. In the Tigers section championship game (they defeated Buffalo 51-45) these three players scored ALL but 6 of the teams points.

Team Captains Josh Pella, Jasper Duberry & Kyle Zimmermann

The two team’s common opponents are Osseo and Maple Grove. The Tigers defeated Osseo 62-54 back in December and Maple Grove in the section quarter final game 82-70.Which gets us to our well balanced Rebels. In the teams thrilling section championship game win, Brandon Davis was the man as he scored on a variety of shots to lead the way with 25 points. Josh Pella was stellar as he poured in 22 points (two 3 pointers in the first half) and made the game clinching shot as he attacked the basket and scored with less than a minute left. Kyle Zimmermann was phenomenal (15 points & 8 rebounds) as he handled and completely outplayed arguably the state’s best post player, Calvin Godfrey. Jasper Duberry who also scored in double digits (12) had a great floor game but was huge in dictating the games tempo and combating the Hawks ball swarming and full court pressure. Dillon Hager (3 points) had another one of his games that didn’t show up in the box score. It was Hager that kept the Hawks from running their offense, getting into a flow or letting the deep talented Hawk guards take over the game. Oddly enough, Hager is the team’s best 3 point shooter (46%) and free throw shooter (77%) and will score if he has to as he has been in double digits for half of the teams games.

Look for the defensive minded Rebel wings Brent Walker and Jordan Reibling to play some key minutes in this game as the Tiger guards are the team’s primary focus. Walker who rebounds well will cause Tiger guards problems shooting with his length. Look for Reibling to get his hands on a number of balls and give the Rebels another shooter from the perimeter. Rebel post players TJ Okafor and D'Andre Williamson will be ready, willing and able to help out on the boards.

The Rebels will be dominant inside as it doesn’t look like the Tigers have an answer for Zimmermann. I think another key to the game will be who the Tigers decide to guard Pella with. Pella, who is too quick for their post players and too strong for their wings, will be a match up nightmare for the Tigers. Hank’s, who is the team’s leading scorer but seems like the best answer, would have a long night and wouldn’t be as effective on offense. I also don’t think the Tigers want an up tempo game with the running Rebels. If the Rebels are able to get around the screens the Tigers will set and keep Hanks and Nystrom under control, they should advance to the quarter final round.

The Rebels put up 77 points on a tough defensive Cooper Hawk team in their last game and are averaging 70 points a game. They have won 22 of their last 25 games and a win would give the school their 1st ever win at the state tournament.

Tipoff at the Target Center is set for 4pm.

Boys state basketball tournament previews

The coaches have selected the top seeds of the two largest school classes — St. Paul Johnson in Class AAA and Hopkins in Class AAAA.

Hopkins is the only school returning to defend its 2009 Class AAAA title. If the Royals win it would be their second consecutive and sixth overall title.

Three teams are making first appearances: Mesabi East of Aurora in Class A; Jordan in Class AA; and Orono in Class AAA.

This is the 14th year of the four-class format, and the seventh with all games being played in Minneapolis. It's also the third year that the top four teams in Class AAA and Class AAAA were seeded and their opponents determined by blind draw. The head coaches of the 16 schools logged onto a special page of the League Web site and each coach ranked the other teams 1 through 7. The highest and lowest rankings for each team were discarded, leaving five rankings for each team. From those rankings, the top four seeds were selected. In conference calls with all eight head coaches of each class, League Associate Director Kevin Merkle announced the top four seeds. A coaches association representative then conducted a blind draw of the four remaining teams to establish the opponents for the seeded teams.

The 2010 State Boys' Basketball Tournament starts Wednesday, March 24. Quarterfinal games will be played at Target Center on Wednesday, March 24, and at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis on both Wednesday and Thursday, March 24 and 25. Semifinals will be played at Target Center on Thursday March 25 and Friday March 26. The championship games of all four classes will be played at Target Center on Saturday March 27. Third-place games will be played on Saturday at Concordia University in St. Paul.

Class AAAA Preview

(Section 7) Forest Lake (24-4) vs. (Section 6 & No. 1 Seed) Hopkins (27-2): The Rangers of Forest Lake return for their fourth appearance, but first since 1999. They were ranked No. 8 in this year's final MBN poll. Forest Lake outscored its opponents by 10 points this year and also shot 45 percent from the field. Senior Zach Riedeman, who has more than 1,000 career points, leads the Rangers with 23.7 points per game. Senior Doug Sewall set a school record for most rebounds in a single season (284) and he averages 9.8 per game. The Royals of Hopkins return to defend their 2009 title. This is their second consecutive and 17th overall appearance. If they win it would be their sixth championship; in addition to last year, they also won in 1952, 1953, 2002, 2005 and 2006. The Royals were No. 1 in the final MBN poll. They average 87 points per game this season and shoot 60.2 percent from the field. Junior Joe Coleman scores an average of 25.2 points per game for Hopkins and junior Marvin Singleton adds another 18.5. Singleton also leads the Royals with 9.9 rebounds per game.

(Section 3) Eastview, Apple Valley (18-10) vs. (Section 4 & No. 4 Seed) Henry Sibley, Mendota Heights (21-4): Eastview is making its first appearance since 2005 and its second overall. The Lightning were not ranked in the final MBN poll. Henry Sibley, which lost in the quarterfinals of the 2009 tournament, is making its third consecutive and overall appearance. The Warriors were ranked No. 4 in this year's final MBN poll. Neither team provided team or individual statistics.

(Section 1) Owatonna (21-7) vs. (Section 2 & No. 2 Seed) Eden Prairie (25-3): Unranked Owatonna returns for its fifth tournament appearance and first since 1991. The Huskies won previous titles in 1989 and 1990. This year's team shoots 35.4 percent from three-point range and defeated its opponents by an average of 10.5 points. Junior Vaughn Thada averages 16.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game and junior Tyler Supalla adds 10.4 points per game for the Huskies. The Eagles of Eden Prairie, who were No. 6 in the final MBN poll, are making their second appearance; their first was in 2003. Eden Prairie did not provide team or individual statistics.

(Section 8) St. Cloud Tech (25-4) vs. (Section 5 & No. 3 Seed) Champlin Park (24-5): The unranked St. Cloud Tech Tigers, who placed third last year, are making their third consecutive and 11th overall appearance. The Tigers averaged 73.9 points this year and shot 48 percent from the field. Seniors Alex Hanks and Scott Nystrom average 19.2 and 18.8 points per game, respectively. They also both average 6.1 rebounds per game. The Champlin Park Rebels, ranked No. 2 in the final MBN poll, return for their second appearance. Their last was in 2005. The Rebels, who shoot 46 percent from the field, outscored their opponents by an average of 10.9 points per game this season. Senior Kyle Zimmerman paces the Rebels with 13.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Seniors Brandon Davis and Josh Pella each add 12.8 points per game.

Boys Basketball: Class AAAA state tournament preview

The last of the winter sports comes to an end this weekend with the boys basketball state tournament in the Twin Cities. The Class 4A quarterfinals begin on Wednesday at the Target Center, with the semifinals taking place Thursday night. The championship game is scheduled for 8pm Saturday, also at the Target Center.

The four quarterfinal matchups:

Champlin Park (24-5, Section 5 champs, #3 seed) vs. St. Cloud Tech (25-4, Section 8 champs), 4pm:

Champlin Park had arguably the toughest road to the state tournament, as they had to defeat #7 Osseo and #3 Robbinsdale Cooper in the Section 5AAAA playoffs to earn their trip to state. The Rebels, seeded third despite ending the season ranked #2 in the polls, average 70.1 points per game and have won 17 of their last 18 contests. They've played seven games against teams ranked in the 4A top 10, winning four of those games including three against conference rivals Osseo. Champlin Park's making their second trip to state; their only other trip came in 2005.

St. Cloud Tech spent a week at #1 earlier in the season after starting the year 10-0. Back-to-back losses knocked the Tigers out of the top spot, but they were able to regroup and win their last nine games to make their 11th trip to the state tournament. The Tigers were tested in the Section 8AAAA playoffs, as they survived a one-point game against St. Michael-Albertville in the semifinals and then defeated #9 Buffalo by seven to win their third straight section title. St. Cloud Tech's the eighth-highest scoring team in Class 4A, averaging 71.3 points per game.

Class AAAA Boy's Basketball Tourney Preview

The Class AAAA boy's basketball tournament starts Wednesday at the Target Center. Defending champion Hopkins returns as the Royals hope to win their fourth title in six years. St. Cloud Tech and Henry Sibley are also making back to the state tournament for the third straight year. GoldenSports.Net will cover all the action this week. The following is a look at the Class AAAA matchups.

4:00 #3 Champlin Park (24-5) vs. St. Cloud Tech (25-4) Champlin Park started the season 7-4 before winning 17 of their last 18 games. The Rebels won 14 straight contest before losing their regular season finale to Andover 77-73. They are veteran team with their top eight scorers all being seniors. They have four double figure scorers, led by Kyle Zimmermann with 13.4 points per game. He is joined on the scoring side by Brandon Davis ((12.8), Josh Pella (12.8), Jaspaer Duberry (11.8) and Dillon Hager (8.1).

St. Cloud Tech started the season 10-0 and were ranked #1 in the state after Hopkins lost two straight games. However, the Tigers lost three of their next five games. They rebounded to win their last nine games and 15 of their final 16 contests. The Tigers defeated Buffalo 52-45 in the section finals after losing to them 55-52 in the regular season. They had to replace Nate Wolters, who averaged 10.1 points per game for South Dakota State and eight of their top ten scorers from a team that finished third in last year’s Class AAAA Tournament. They also to replace head coach Randy Jordan, last year’s Class 4A Coach of the Year. He left to coach Stillwater. The Tigers are led by senior Alex Hanks, who is headed to Mankato State and is averaging 19.3 points per game. Scott Nystrom, a 6-foot-2 senior who transferred from Kimball, is adding 18.8 points.

Champlin Park downs Cooper for spot in state boys tourney

After almost upsetting Cooper in last year's Section 5AAAA boys basketball semifinals, the Champlin Park Rebels wanted another shot at the Hawks this season.

Though Cooper had a whole new lineup compared to a year ago, the Hawks came in as the No. 1 seed and carrying a 25-3 record. No. 2-seed Champlin Park was 23-5.

The Rebels played a strong first half, putting together a late run to take a 44-33 halftime lead. Champlin Park's lead grew as big as 18 before Cooper came storming back to within three late in the game.

The Rebels held on to win 77-70, advancing to the state tournament for the second time in school history.

Champlin Park was seeded No. 3 for the state Class AAAA tourney. The Rebels meet St. Cloud Tech in the quarterfinals Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Target Center.

Boys basketball: Tigers, Flyers face tests at state

St. Cloud Tech gets a team that plays like itself and it can match up with in Champlin Park.

Little Falls faces a team quite unlike itself in Minneapolis DeLaSalle.

Tech and Little Falls learned their opponents for the state boys basketball tournament Saturday morning in a seeding meeting.

Unseeded Tech (25-4) plays third-seeded Champlin Park (24-5) at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the TargetCenter in Minneapolis in the state Class 4A quarterfinals.

Unseeded Little Falls (20-9) plays second-seeded Minneapolis DeLaSalle (24-4) at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Arena.

“It’s not a shock,” Tech head coach Mike Trewick said of being unseeded. “(Tech) couldn’t get higher than fourth last year and was 31-1. So, we’ll take it.”

Tech, like Little Falls, avoids having to see the top seed until the final. Champlin Park is a smaller, quicker team like Tech, with no starter over 6-foot-4, though the Tigers do start 6-foot-6 sophomore Kevin Heysse.

Hopkins got the top seed and faces Forest Lake. No. 2 Eden Prairie plays Owatonna and No. 4 Henry Sibley faces Eastview of Apple Valley.

Little Falls, led by 6-8 Dan Kornbaum, faces DeLaSalle, which is led by Jonah Travis, a 6-6 junior, Jalen Jaspers, a 6-3 senior guard, and Bretson McNeal, a 6-0 junior guard.

The main gym inside Rogers High School was overflowing well before Champlin Park and Cooper took the floor for their highly anticipated Class 4A, Section 5 boys basketball final Friday, March 19.
With high-energy showdown of two teams running up and down the court at a pace few high school clubs can match up with, that type of draw was expected.

But in the midst of what was a frantic finish to a stacked section tournament, there was something else being played out, something that ended up resembling that of an old-fashioned game of Chicken.

"We were going to go right at them," said Champlin Park head coach Mark Tuchscherer. "We knew they'd come at us, so we wanted to attack them right back. We weren't going to back down."

And so they attacked, as it was Cooper that ended up blinking first with a costly first half controlled by Champlin Park in what finished as a 77-70 Rebels victory and a spot in this week's Class 4A state tournament.

An upset according to the section seeds, second-seeded Champlin Park (24-5) put it's depth to work, taking out top-seeded Cooper (25-4) with an offense that came in waves from a starting five that accounted for every point.

Brandon Davis scored eight of Champlin Park's first 13 points on his way to finishing with 25. Josh Pella got his night started by banking in a pair of first-half three's, before ending it with a pair of buckets in the final two minutes that left him with 22 on the night.

In between, Kyle Zimmerman went at Cooper's 6-foot-8 intimidator Calvin Godfrey for 15 of his own points, while holding the lengthy center to just 11 points on the other end.

"Kyle played man-to-man against probably one of the best centers ever to play in this state," said Tuchscherer. "Eleven points for him, that is pretty darn good man-to-man defense."

Mors so, it caught Cooper off guard.

"Most teams have not been able to defend us like that," said Cooper head coach David Johnson. "Their strength wore us down, especially inside. That is what hurt us the most, and Zimmerman really hurt us. It seemed like every time we made a run, he would come down and get down low and get a shot off."

When it mattered most, Pella delivered the most serious blow. Champlin Park was up by 11 at the break, and then 18 after Davis, Zimmerman and Jasper Duberry accounted for an 8-0 run that gave the Rebels a 66-48 lead with just over eight minutes to play.

Cooper stormed back though, and they were within three (73-70) with 1:23 to go after a Godfrey block led to a Terry Glass put back. But on their next trip down, Pella attacked the rim for his final two points, and Cooper wouldn't score again.

"We were not going to be denied," said Pella. "That is what we said all night. We were going to have the power to get to state, and that's what we did."

Champlin Park's only other trip to the state basketball tournament came in 2005. That year, the Rebels lost their only state tournament game in school history, falling to Tartan 48-33 in the Class 4A state semifinals.

Hopkins won the big-school title that year, and the Royals enter this year's field at the No. 1 overall seed.

Champlin Park was named the No. 3 seed in the tournament, and they were scheduled to open up against St. Cloud Tech (25-4) at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 24 at Target Center.

A loss there would end the Rebels season, but the lingering thought in Rogers last Thursday was of unfinished business on the Target Center floor.

Back in early January, Champlin Park had a 10-point lead on Hopkins at the half in the Timberwolves Shootout. The Royals came back to win 74-69 then. If they are to meet again, it wouldn't be until the state final, on that same court.

And in the mass of white-clad Champlin Park students celebrating with the Rebels Thursday, the possibilities of a rematch came up more than once.

"You have to take it one game at a time and worry about whoever we play first, but obviously we'd like another shot at Hopkins," Tuchscherer said. "We feel like we let that last one against Hopkins get away."

Thursday, that wasn't an issue.

"We set three goals at the beginning of the season," Pella said. "We've taken care of two of them by winning the conference and section. Our third goal is to win it all, and now we have a chance.

Champlin Park’s Jasper Duberry raised his hand in victory as his teammates cheered after Duberry sank a basket right before the halftime buzzer during Friday night’s Class 4A,Section 5 final against Cooper. Duberry and the Rebels beat the Hawks 77-70.

The Rebels are going to state for the second time in school history after holding off top-seeded Cooper.

Champlin Park has preached a complete team effort for the entire boys' basketball season, and it wasn't about to end minutes after the Rebels knocked off No. 1-seeded Cooper 77-70 in the Class 4A, Section 5 championship game Friday night.

As coach Mark Tuchscherer praised several seniors, he was interrupted by many of those very players. Everyone had taken a turn cutting down the net inside the nearly full gym at Rogers High School; the last snip, though, was saved for the coach.

It was that kind of night for the Rebels (24-5), and it's been that kind of season. They built a 44-33 halftime lead, stretched it to 66-48 midway through the half, withstood a barrage by Cooper (25-4) that got the Hawks within 73-70, got a huge hoop from Josh Pella (22 points) with a minute left and hung on for their second state boys' basketball tournament berth in school history.

All 77 points came from five senior starters, and key moments were distributed almost equally. Brandon Davis led the way with 25 and exchanged a couple of memorable hard fouls with 6-8 Cooper center Calvin Godfrey.

"He thought I was going to back down," Davis said. "But our whole team is tough. Nobody is going to make us back down."

Godfrey, who averages 19 points a game, was held to 11 thanks to swarming double- and triple-teams in the post. The player most often charged with guarding him man-to-man was 6-3 Kyle Zimmermann, who chipped in 15 points and even brought the ball up the court on several occasions.

"He's just a phenomenal defender because he's so smart," Tuchscherer said, seconds before the final piece of the net beckoned.

The Rebels (23-5) will be taking on their cross town section rival Cooper Hawks (25-3) who are currently on an 11 game winning streak and ranked #2 in the recent Minnesota Preps poll. The Hawks defeated Moundsview 74-61 in the other semi-final game Tuesday night as they were led by the big man sensation Calvin Godfrey as he scored 34 points.

Godfrey who leads the team in scoring with 19 points a game, also have starters Darry Jones (16 ppg) and Terrace Averyheart (10 ppg) averaging in double digits. The Hawks are a very athletic, quick and deep team. They like to chase the ball, jump switch, run out at shooters, reach for steals and attempt to block every shot that is taken.

In this game, Godfrey (pictured above at the free throw line), who is arguably the best post player in the state, will not be the factor that he usually is due to his over aggressiveness getting him in foul trouble in which he will probably foul out trying to guard Kyle Zimmermann. Josh Pella will be too much for the Hawks other post player Brandon Harrison.

Therefore, the Rebels need to be worried about playing against a smaller tenacious Hawk team. The Hawk guards are relentless and led by team leader Averyheart who makes them go. Look for Elijah Swen to come off the bench and make the game even faster. Brandon Davis will have his hands full with Darry Jones who has the green light and will put up a lot of shots.

The Rebels 2-3 zone will obviously give the Hawks problems as it will limit Godfrey’s touches and the Hawks are not a great 3 point shooting team. If the Rebels take care of the ball (easily said than done against Cooper’s impressive ball pressure), reverse the ball on offense when the Hawks start chasing the ball, use ball fakes and ball rips with a back door cut here and there to take advantage of the Hawks over aggressiveness, they should be in the game at the end in which they will need to make their free throws. The Rebels, who have struggled at the line this year, will need to make their free throws to close out the game and punch their ticket for the state tournament.

The balanced scoring Rebels who have four players scoring in double digits per game are averaging 70 points a game. They have won 21 of their last 24 games and are currently ranked #5 in the Minnesota Preps poll.

Section 5: Champlin Park vs Robbinsdale Cooper (at Rogers)

Discussion here has to begin with Calvin Godfrey of Cooper. If he goes nuts for 30+ like he did in the semis vs Mounds View, then Cooper wins easily. If he's in foul trouble and on the bench, then things even out and Cooper becomes an up and down team and the game becomes about tempo. Cooper has plenty of guys who can score in Terrance Averyheart and Darry Jones just to name 2 double figure guys. Elijah Swen and Terry Glass have also come up big at times this year for the Hawks. Defensively they matchup well with the Rebels too with athletes and bigs like Brandon Harrison to play against Kyle Zimmerman.

CP 69 - Osseo 62 (Section Semi-Final)

After a very competitive 1st half that saw the Rebels fall behind 23-17 with 5 minutes to go, they battle back to be only down 1 point at the half, 29-28.

The Rebels (23-5) start the 2nd half with one of their patent runs to take charge of the game. The Orioles (22-6) go on a run of their own too close to 36-34 with 13 minutes to go. The Rebels go on to lead the entire 2nd half and never let the Orioles get closer than 3 points as they gradually put the game away behind 22 second half points from Kyle Zimmermann.

Josh Pella who was huge around the basket, finished with a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Jasper Duberry was the teams 2nd leading scorer with 14 points as he had a great floor game and was key handling the Orioles late game full court pressure as they tried to get back into the game.

The Rebels who snapped the Orioles 40 game home winning streak back on January 9th and defeated them again on February 23rd (without Zimmermann) get their 3rd victory of the year over the Orioles (the Orioles now lead the overall game series 25-8).

The Rebels (#2 seed) are now in the section championship game for only the second time in the schools 12 year history. They will play the Cooper Hawks (#1 seed) on Friday at 7pm.

Zimmerman returns, Rebels win; Basketball team takes playoff opener, 71-58

Champlin Park senior Kyle Zimmerman returned after missing most of the last three weeks with an ankle injury, and it was as if he never left.

Zimmerman scored 16 points, matching teammates Brandon Davis' output as both led all scorers in the Rebels 71-58 win over Spring Lake Park in the Class 4A, Section 5 quarterfinals Friday, March 12.

Josh Pella added 13 for the Rebels, and both Dillon Hager and Jasper Duberry pitched in with 11 as second-seeded Champlin Park moved into the section semifinals.

The Rebels were scheduled to face third-seeded Osseo Tuesday, March 16 at Rogers High School. Top-seeded Cooper also advanced into the section semi's, and the Hawks will get No. 4 seed Mounds View in the other Section 5 semifinal.

The section final will be played at 7 p.m. Friday, March 19 at Rogers.

Josh Pella Named To The 28th Annual MN High School All-Star Basketball Series

Forty of the state's outstanding senior boys basketball players will compete in the 28th annual Minnesota High School All-Star Basketball Series. Doubleheaders will be played Friday, April 9th at Halenbeck Hall on the campus of St. Cloud State University and Saturday, April 10th at Leonard Center on the campus of Macalester College in St. Paul.

Friday's event will be tipped off by a contest between the Blue and Gold teams at 7:00 p.m. The Maroon and Green teams will culminate the evening's activities with an 8:45 p.m. contest. Saturday's schedule will include games at 2:15 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Three point shooting and Dunk contests will precede each of the games both dates. Tickets at the door are $8 for adults and $5 for students (5 & under are free).

Well, here we go again.

The Rebels, will be taking on cross town conference rival Osseo Orioles (currently on a 4 game winning streak) for the 3rd time this season. The Rebels swept the Orioles during the season and ended Osseo’s four year home winning streak.

The Orioles (#3) who defeated the Centennial Cougars (#6) in their first section game, 71-44, are led by seniors Aaron Anderson (13 ppg), Chris McMorris (12 ppg) and John Rowland (10 ppg).

The Rebels (#2) who had their leading scorer Kyle Zimmermann (16 points & 7 rebounds) return last week in the team’s first round conference game in which they defeated a spirited Spring Lake Park(#7) team 71-58.

Look for this to be highly competitive intense game with the Orioles bringing everything AND the kitchen sink.

The Rebels welcome back the return of Kyle Zimmermann.

Spring Lake Park (SLP) plays a very tough 1st half and leads the Rebels 25-24 at the 6 minute mark. Josh Pella and Brandon Davis each score 9 points to get the Rebels a halftime lead of 35-33.

The Rebels start the 2nd half with one of their patent runs, 14-5, as Zimmermann gets going, 49-38 Rebels with 13 minutes to go. SLP continues to turn the ball over and can’t get any closer as they begin to foul and the Rebels end this one on the free throw line.

The Rebels have a balanced scoring (all 5 starters in double digits) attack that sends them to the section semi-finals as they win their 20th out of their last 23 games.

As theTNT basketball announcers would put it, “It’s win or go home time”.

The Rebels (21-5) who are the #2 seed in the section take on the #7 seeded Spring Lake Park Panthers (13-13) as the Panthers make their first appearance in the section on Friday March 12th.

The Panthers, who are on a three game winning streak and averaging 68 points a game, are led by three seniors, Elijah Sabah (16 ppg), Travis Johnson (14 ppg) and Ryan Murdy (11 ppg). When looking at the teams common opponents, the Panthers have defeated Centennial, but lost to Osseo, Moundsview, Elk River and Minnetonka.

The Rebels who had their 14 game winning streak snapped last Friday night on senior night, look forward to the return of post player Kyle Zimmermann who has sat out the last four games due to an ankle injury. Zimmermann will bring back a dominate inside presence. Swing man Josh Pella, who has probably missed Zimmermann the most since he has shouldered most of the inside work, should be energized and more effective with the Zimmermann return. The week off will also help Jasper Duberry who nicked a finger in the Anoka game.

Look for the Rebels to play better defense in this game as they gave up their 3rd highest amount of points (77) of the season in their Andover lost which included a mind boggling 54 in the second half. The Rebels also suffered thru one of their worst shooting performances of the year as well.

The balanced scoring Rebels who have four players scoring in double digits per game are averaging 70 points a game. They have won 19 of their last 22 games and are currently ranked #5 in the Minnesota Preps poll.

This will be the last game of the year at Champlin Park High School as well as the career last game at the school for the nine seniors.

CP 73 - Andover 77

It’s Senior Night at Champlin Park as the Rebels look to push their 14 game winning streak to 15 entertaining the Andover Huskies who the Rebels defeated 73-58 back on January 29th behind the 19 points of Brandon Davis and 15 points from Dillon Hager. Kyle Zimmermann, who had 11 big points in the teams’ first game and battled the Huskies bigs, is out.

On to the game. Duberry with the Rebels first two baskets, a short shot by Josh Pella and two D’Andre Williamson baskets and its 10-8 Rebels with 12 minutes to go as the Rebels go into a 2-3 zone. The Huskies go to a full court press and get a turnover that results in 2 Andrew Berndt free throws. Pella with a nice cut to the basket for a 3 point play and another basket, 19-18 CP.

Snider knocks down a 3 pointer and then gets back on defense and blocks Williamson’s layup, timeout Andover as they lead 21-19 with 7 minutes to go. Play is resumed with 2 quick Rebel fouls as Davis takes a shot to the head and makes 1 of 2 free throws. Duberry converts an AND1 as the Rebels take a 23-21 lead with 6 minutes to go.

Pella with a blocked Huskie shot in the lane, Davis is fouled and makes both free throws, Duberry knocks down a pointer to push the Rebels to a 28-21 lead. The Huskies shoot and rebound for a 5 shot possession to get a basket to stop the Rebel run, 28-23. Hager has a pass deflected into the back court that Brent Walker runs down and attacks the basket for 2. Hager gets his first basket of the game for 3, and the Rebels lead 33-23 at the half.

The Northwest Suburban Conference Champion Rebels (21-4 / 16-1) play their last conference game at home as they take on the Andover Huskies for a Friday March 5th conference game match up. The Huskies are on a 2 game (Anoka and Centennial) conference losing streak. They are led by senior guard Andrew Berndt (16 ppg) and senior post player Jason Schneider (15 ppg) as they fight for a 3rd place finish with the Anoka Tornadoes.

The Rebels defeated the Huskies 73-58 in Andover on January 29th as four Rebels (Zimmerman 11, Duberry 13, Hager 15 & Davis 19) scored in double digits. The Rebels will probably be without leading scorer Kyle Zimmermann again as his sprang ankle continues to heal.

The Rebels who will be looking to win their 15th straight game will be honoring their nine seniors (Brandon Davis, Jasper Duberry, Dillon Hager, Josh Pella, Jordan Reibling, Eric Sanstead, Brent Walker, D’Andre Williamson and Kyle Zimmermann) immediately following the JV game (approximately 6:15).

We ask that OUR FANS join us to celebrate our season, CP basketball careers and the schools 2nd boys’ conference championship in school history. PLEASE invite someone, bring your energy and help us make this special event of OURS something for ALL of us to remember.

Sweep of Osseo leaves Rebels alone in first; Boys basketball team moves to 20-4 after pair of NWSC wins

In the midst of what's been the best boys basketball season in Champlin Park high school history, and with their most critical game to date about to start, the Rebels warmed up for their Tuesday, Feb. 23 home date against Osseo with arguably their most important player watching on in street clothes.

Turns out it didn't matter much.

Champlin Park, ranked No. 2 in the most recent Class 4A top 10, upended the third-ranked Orioles 69-56 behind a balanced attack that, even without leading scoring Kyle Zimmerman, managed to get four different guys score in double figures.

Josh Pella (pictured) had a game-high 16 points against Osseo - one of four players to go into double figures.

"Without Kyle in the line-up, we all had a challenge, and we all stepped up to the plate and we were able to get it done here at home," said senior guard Jasper Duberry, who dished out five assists and tied teammate Josh Pella with a game-high 16 points.

In a game that doesn’t get into a real flow do to the number of turnovers and missed shots from both teams, Josh Pella’s dunk finally gets the Rebels on the board, Tornadoes 9-2. Pella converts a 3 point play as Duberry makes 1 of 2 free throws to put the Rebels in the lead for good at 12-11. Dillon Hager knocks down two 3 pointers as the Rebels go on a 16-4 run to go into the half leading 30-21.

The Rebels start the 2nd half in a zone as D’Andre Williamson sparks them with a basket, draws a foul on Ismail (his 3rd) and then takes a charge from Tyus and cleans up the boards. Duberry gets a steal and on his breakout he is fouled hard on the hand and has to leave the game as Reibling subs for him and makes 1 of 2 free throws, CP 35-23 with 14 minutes to go. Pella starts to get active on both ends as he gets a basket and then Brandon Davis knocks down a 3 pointer, CP 40-23, timeout Tornadoes.

The Tornadoes end their drought as they get a 3 pointer from Marcus Tyus as they go on a 7-0 run which Pella stops with a basket, CP 42-30 with 9 minutes to go. The Tornadoes score a quick 4 points, 42-34 CP timeout.

Pella with a 4-0 run, a bunny and a jumper from the elbow, 46-34 with 7 minutes to go. Davis rebounds a missed BJ Sherva shot and goes the distance for a basket that Ismail answers, 50-38 with 4 minutes to go, timeout Tornadoes.

Davis comes out of the timeout with a corner 3 pointer, Gave answers that then Duberry beats Tyus to the basket, 55-40 with 2 minutes to go. The Tornadoes go into a full court press and get a steal and 2 free throws. The Rebels break the press and Brent Walker adds 2 free throws, 57-43. The Tornadoes get a little closer before Duberry and Hager close it out at the free throw line.

The Rebels go on to win a game that they started very sloppy, full of turnovers and missed shots. However, they turn it on and play a better 2nd half and get their 14th straight win.

The Rebels (20-4 / 15-1) hit the road for their last road game of the season as they travel to Anoka to take on the Tornadoes (18-6 / 11-5) for a Tuesday March 2nd conference game rematch.

The Tornadoes are on a 2 game (Coon Rapids and Andover) conference winning streak and are led by Lomumba Ismail (15 ppg) and sophomore sensation Marcus Tyus (14 ppg) as they try to hold on to 3rd place in the conference.

The Rebels defeated the Tornadoes 77-43 back on February 3rd. In that game the Tornadoes were ranked #5 and the Rebels were ranked #8 and this was the Tornadoes 2nd biggest game of the year after losing to Osseo in the prior week. The Rebels had four players score in double digits and held the conference’s leading scorer Lomumba Ismail to a season low 4 points.

The Rebels put on an incredible shooting performance last Friday against Elk River as they made 16 of 21 from behind the arch and 12 of 13 free throws as Brandon Davis (28) and Dillon Hager (20) had their career highs in points.

The Rebels who will be looking to win their 14th straight game can clinch the conference title by winning the game. The Rebels who will probably be playing without Kyle Zimmermann again will have to handle Ismail again as he is probably ready to make up for his horrible game earlier when the teams met.

The balanced scoring Rebels are averaging 70 points a game. They have won 18 of their last 20 games and are currently ranked #2 in the Minnesota Basketball News poll and #3 in the Minnesota Preps poll.

The Rebels who are coming off their big victory over Osseo on Tuesday look to keep their 12 game winning streak going. The Rebels defeated the Elks back on January 26th 68-60 in a tuff game that could have gone either way until the last six minutes of the game.

The Elks, who defeated Park Center 83-64 Tuesday night, have two players who are averaging 10 points a game. They are led by junior Ben Erickson who is averaging 11 points a game.

The balanced scoring Rebels are averaging 69 points a game. Josh Pella who is averaging 12 points a game leads four players who are scoring in double digits per game. The team will again be without post player Kyle Zimmermann as he nurses his ankle sprang.

The Rebels Sweep Orioles To Take 2 Game Lead

The #2 Rebels playing without their leading scorer, Kyle Zimmermann, knock off the #3 Orioles for the second time this season to push their conference lead to two games as they get their 12th win in a row. The Rebels fall behind 4-0 before hitting their stride and taking a 15-9 lead. Brent Walker gets back to back baskets to get the Rebels their largest lead at 24-11. A well timed missed shot follow dunk by Pella sends the Rebels into the locker room at the half leading 31-23.

The Rebels come out the 2nd half and continued to build their lead. A basket by Pella, Duberry 3 point play and Brandon Davis 3 pointer gets the Rebels a 39-25 lead which swelled as high as 18 on a Pella breakout for a 54-36 lead with 7 minutes to go. The Orioles go on a quick 2 minute 10-3 run to get the score to 57-46 with 5 minutes to go. The Rebels get back on track and close the game out.

Jasper Duberry (5 rebounds & 5 assists) & Josh Pella (12 rebounds for a double double) led the way as four starters scored in double digits with Brent Walker turning in a great defensive effort off of the bench. The Rebels are starting to gain momentum. Seniors Jasper Duberry and Josh Pella each had 16 points, pacing four Champlin Park players in double figures in a Northwest Suburban Conference victory over Osseo. Senior guard Chris McMorris led the Orioles with 14 points. The Class 4A, No. 2 Rebels swept No. 3 Osseo on the season. In their first meeting, Champlin Park ended Osseo's 40-game home winning streak that dated back to 2006 with a 61-53 victory.

Champlin Park, Osseo set for boys basketball showdown

There is still another week to play in the regular season for Northwest Suburban Conference boys basketball teams, but Tuesday night's Champlin Park-Osseo matchup will go a long way toward deciding the league title.

Osseo, which has won the last three NWSC titles, needs a win after falling to Andover last Thursday, leaving the Orioles one game behind Champlin Park atop the league standings.

Champlin Park has just one conference title in boys basketball since the school opened in the 1992-'93 school year; a win tonight would put them in good position to take a second.

Tipoff is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Champlin Park. You can watch the game Wednesday at 8:30 and 11 p.m. on Channel 12 and at http://www.twelve.tv/.

The Northwest Suburban Conference boys basketball championship is Champlin Park's to lose.
That became clear last week after the Rebels knocked off Coon Rapids and Centennial to run their current winning streak to 11 straight games and improve to 18-4 overall and 13-1 in conference play.

Osseo, which is 12-2 in the conference, lost to Andover 57-54 Friday, Feb. 19 to fall a game behind Champlin Park in the league standings.

This week, those two teams were scheduled to play 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 at Champlin Park. The Rebels won the first meeting 61-53 at Osseo.

Since then, Champlin Park has yet to lose. Last week, Kyle Zimmerman and Jasper Duberry finished with a dozen points each in a 50-47 home win over Coon Rapids Feb. 16. Then, on Friday, Feb. 19, Duberry, Josh Pella and Dillon Hager scored 11 points apiece in a 60-51 victory over Centennial.

The Northwest Suburban Conference basketball championship seems to be coming down to the teams we thought it would be, the Champlin Park Rebels and the Osseo Orioles, as the teams prepare for their second show down of the season at 7pm on Tuesday, February 23rd at Champlin Park.

This became clear last week after the Rebels knocked off Coon Rapids and Centennial to run their current winning streak to 11 games (17 of their last 19) and improve to 18-4 overall and 13-1 in conference play. The Rebels are currently ranked #2 in the Minnesota Basketball News poll and #4 in the Minnesota Preps poll. Osseo, who is 18-4 overall also and 12-2 in conference play, lost to Andover 57-54 last Friday, to fall a game behind Champlin Park in the conference. The Orioles (before their lost) were ranked #3 in the Minnesota Basketball News poll and #6 in the Minnesota Preps poll, they are most likely to drop in both.

Last week, Kyle Zimmerman and Jasper Duberry finished with 12 points each in a 50-47 home win over Coon Rapids on February 16. Then, on Friday February 19th, Duberry, Josh Pella and Dillon Hager scored 11 points apiece in a 60-51 victory over Centennial as Zimmermann watched in street clothes.

The Rebels won the first meeting 61-53 at Osseo, snapping the Orioles 40 game four year home winning streak. It was also the first time that the Rebels had defeated the Orioles in the last five years.

It was the first game that guard Dillon Hager had permenantly replaced post D’Andre Williamson in the starting lineup. Ironically, do to Kyle Zimmermann’s being out with a bad ankle sprang, Williamson re-enters the lineup.

After a number of questionable fouls on both teams, the Rebels took a 34-24 lead at the half. Late in the 2nd half while up 8 points, the Rebels went into a 2-3 zone. The Orioles struggled to make shots from the perimeter and twice had possessions in which they passed the ball around for close to 2 minutes trying to find a shot and did not convert on either possession.

Pella (10 rebounds) and Zimmermann (14 rebounds) who both had double doubles were huge inside the lane as Hager and Reibling (who replaced Duberry do to foul trouble) continued to stretch the floor with their 3 point shooting. The Rebels 2nd half defense was phenomenal as they seemed very focused and hustled for every loose ball. This was a game that seemed like the Rebels wanted more and was their best performance of the year.

With a conference tie in the balance for Osseo, the Rebels will have to play twice as hard to win their largest game of the season to date. Expect the Orioles to play aggressive in the paint, trying to take advantage of the missing Zimmermann and to over work Pella. Williamson and TJ Okafor will need to play smart and within themselves as their play will go a long way in determining the game.

The Rebels, who have the bigger guards and are deeper at this position, will have to play big to offset this and keep the Orioles stand out point guard Aaron Anderson (12 ppg) out of the lane.

Washburn Miller Montrell Wade

We are all pulling for Washburn football star and basketball player Montrell Wade. Montrell was involved in an accidental shooting incident last Saturday and is in critical condition fighting for his life. The Rebels played Washburn in the semi-final game of the Olive Garden Christmas tournament. The above picture was taken after that game.

Montrell played with current Rebel players Brent Walker, Jasper Duberry, Kyle Zimmermann and TJ Okafor (pictured) on the 2007 TNL summer basketball team. Montrell's brother, Marche' was also on the team.

The Rebels (17-4 / 12-1) continue conference play on Friday February 19th as they continue on to game two of their three game home stand taking on the Centennial Cougars (9-12 / 6-7) for the 3rd time this season.

The Rebels defeated the Cougars 72-65 on their home court on January 22nd and 67-65 in the championship game of the Olive Garden Holiday Tournament back in December at Bethel College. The Rebels have the opportunity to defeat the Cougars twice in conference play in the same year for the first time in the last two years.

The Cougars who defeated Elk River at home on Tuesday have won 4 of their last 6 games. They are led by sharp shooter Nathan Kuck (14 ppg) and the versatile hard working forward Brian Sarvela (12 ppg). Sarvela is one of the surprised players of the conference.

In the team’s last match up, Brandon Davis led the way with 19 points followed by Kyle Zimmermann’s 15 and Jasper Duberry’s 12 points as they led the entire game.

The Rebels, who won a scary 3 point game over Coon Rapids at home on Tuesday, look to push their current winning streak to eleven. Davis & The Rebels Survive A Scare

The Rebels come out with a lot of energy and ready to avenge their earlier loss to the Cardinals by going on a 8-0 run, timeout Cardinals. The game comes to a screeching halt as both teams finished a very boring 1st half, 20-12 Rebels.

The 2nd half starts with the Rebels turning up the intensity on the defensive end as they get 3 straight stops and 3 layups (Jasper Duberry 2, Dillon Hager 1) 26-12 Rebels with 16:24 to go, timeout Cardinals. The game goes back to its first half lull as the Rebels lead 34-23 with 11 minutes left as Josh Pella pulls down all the Cardinals misses (11 boards for the game).

Torren Dowdy knocks down a 3 and attacks the basket for two more and its 37-31 Rebels with 9 minutes to go. The Rebels get a couple of scores from Kyle Zimmermann and 2 free throws from Jordan Reibling to push their lead to 43-34 with 7 minutes to go when things start to go the Cardinals way.

Zimmermann goes up for an offensive rebound when he comes down awkwardly on his ankle and leaves the game with 5 minutes to go. The Rebels who can’t make a shot finally get a couple of free throws from Duberry and Brandon Davis, 47-37 Rebels with 3:40 to go.

Dowdy and Malcolm Farley go on a 7-0 run for the Cardinals, 47-44 Rebels with 2 minutes to go. The Rebels who have gone ice cold at this point watch Dowdy as he knocks down another 3 pointer to tie the game at 47 with 17 seconds to go. The Rebels, who have not scored in the last 4 minutes, call timeout.

The Rebels work the ball around when Duberry hits Davis on the left wing who buries a 3 pointer, 50-47 Rebels. The game is delayed for a couple of minutes as Dowdy suffers a cut to his head from Duberry’s elbow on the last play.

The Cardinals work the ball around only to have their 3 point attempt swatted into the stands by Davis with 1.5 seconds left. Dowdy returns with blood on his shorts and is removed from the game only to quickly change into a teammates shorts. The Cardinals get the ball into Dowdy between the ½ court line and the 3 point line as his desperation shot is an air ball.

The Cardinals outscore the Rebels 10-5 (all by Davis) over the last five minutes of the game (35-30 in the 2nd half) but come up short in their rally as the Rebels hold on to win their 10th in a row.

1. Northwest Suburban Conference team to watch - Champlin Park is 15-4 overall and 10-1 in the Northwest Suburban Conference. The Rebels are tied with Osseo for first place (Champlin beat Osseo 61-53 on Jan. 19) and ranked No. 2 in the state in 4A. CP has four players averaging between 11.1 and 12.8 points per game, including Josh Pella (12.8), Brandon Davis (12.4), Kyle Zimmermann (12.3) and Jasper Duberry (11.1). Jordan Riebling leads the team with 23 3-pointers made, while Dillon Hager has 22. Pella also leads the team in rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.

The Rebels (16-4 / 11-1) continue conference play on Tuesday February 16th as they start a three game home stand as they take on the Coon Rapids Cardinals (8-11 / 5-7) with revenge on their minds.

As we all know, the Rebels were embarrassingly upset by the Cardinals back on January 12th 85-80 in overtime. Senior forward Aaron Lukitsch who was averaging five points a game, made six threes (one in overtime) to finish with 34 points, the most points the Rebels have given up to any individual player this year. The Cardinals also had three other players score in double digits.

Josh Pella (28) and Jordan Reibling (16) both had their season highs in that game. Starters Brandon Davis, Jasper Duberry and Kyle Zimmermann who are all averaging double digits, each scored in single digits and combined for 19 points.

The Cardinals who lost to Andover last Friday are on a two game losing streak and have only won 3 of their last 8 games. The Cardinals who are averaging 59 points a game are led by senior guard Torren Dowdy’s 15 points a game.

The Rebels who are averaging 71 points a game are currently #2 in the Minnesota Basketball News poll and #5 in the Minnesota Preps poll. The Rebels who have four starters averaging double digits are on a nine game winning streak and have won 15 of their last 17 games. The players will be honoring their parents prior to the game at 6:30. Conference co-leader Osseo is at home against Blaine.

The Rebels (15-4 / 10-1) continue conference play on Friday February 12th as they travel to Blaine to take on the Bengals (4-14 / 2-9).

The Rebels defeated the Bengals at home 61(15 points from Davis) -39 (16 points from Zach Romashko) back on January 14th as four Rebel starters reached double digits to combine for 46 points, nine Rebels scored.

The Bengals are currently on a two game losing streak and have one victory in their last nine games. The Bengals are led by junior post sensation Zach Romashko who is averaging a huge 18 points a game. Senior guard Jesse Briggity is their other double digit scorer at 10 points a game. Keep an eye on the very athletic sophomore wing Duke Anywanu as well.

Conference co-leader Osseo is at home against Centennial.

The Rebels who are averaging a conference leading 71 points a game were moved up to the #2 spot in the Class 4A State Rankings today by the Minnesota Basketball News. The Rebels who have four starters averaging double digits are on an eight game winning streak and have won 14 of their last 16 games.

The game of runs.

The Rebels jump out to a 6-0 lead before Justin Casey gets the Pirates on the board with a short shot. Dillon Hager knocks down a 3 pointer for a 16-10 Rebel lead with 12 minutes to go, timeout (TO) Rebels. The Pirates return to go on a run as Deric Paine’s 3 gives the Pirates their first lead of the night 17-16 as the Rebels answer with a Jordan Reibling free throw and a Brandon Davis (pictured right) 3 pointer, 20-17 Rebels. Brian Blackhawks 3 pointer ties the game at 20 with 6 minutes left, TO Pirates.

The Rebels return with Teddy Gibson in the lineup and proceed to hit three 3 pointers, Davis with two of them (one from NBA range) as Hagler’s makes the score 29-20. The Rebels get a free throw and go into a 2-3 zone as the Pirates end the Rebels run, 30-22 with 3 minutes to go. Josh Pella with his first basket of the game 32-22.

Jordan Lynn gets a quick 4 points and another Blackhawk 3 pointer gets the Pirates to within 33-29 when Terez Vanpelt adds another 3 pointer with 3 seconds left to end the 1st half with an 8-0 run, CP 33-32. Davis leads the Rebels at the half with 14 points and Hagler has 8. The most glaring stat, Kyle Zimmermann has not scored. Casey leads the Pirates with 12 points as Blackhawk has three 3 pointers for 9 points.

The 2nd half start with 2 quick Jasper Duberry (pictured left) breakouts off of Hagler steals and a Pirate 3 pointer is answered with a Duberry 3 pointer, 40-35. Duberry finishes the Rebels 6-0 run with a break out basket to push their lead to 46-35 with 14 minutes left. Kyle Zimmermann makes 1 of 2 free throws (1st point of the game) CP 47-40 11 minutes. The Pirates get a couple of questionable calls, 50-46, TO Champlin with 9 minutes left.

A couple of more bad calls (both teams KICKED the ball around the 1st half and nothing was ever called) are made on deflections when the ‘Josh Pella Show’ starts. Davis hits Pella (pictured below) on the wing for a breakout layup off of high glass, 55-50, 7 minutes to go. Pella breaks out for dunk and is fouled to complete the and1, 60-50, TO Champlin with 4 minutes to go. Pella with another dunk off the baseline that the Pirates answer, 62-52. Davis takes an ill advised (not playing the Pirates but the clock guys) 3 pointer when Duberry comes back down and knocks down an ill advised 3 pointer, two more Hagler free throws, 67-56 Rebels with a minute and a half left, TO Pirates.

The teams exchange a couple of baskets that leads us to the night cap. With 30 seconds left the Pirates return from the TO in a full court press. The Rebels bring everyone up to the foul line when Pella escapes to catch a full court pass, takes one dribble and dunks while being fouled; he makes the free throw, 73-62.

The win pushes the Rebels winning streak to eight games and they are now 15-4.

The Rebels (14-4 / 9-1) continue conference play on Tuesday February 9th as they take on the Park Center Pirates (9-9 / 3-7) at home. The Rebels defeated the Pirates 78-61 back on January 5th as Duberry (18) and Pella (21) (pictured) combined for 39 points.

Since that point both teams have gone in completely different directions. Park Center who was the talk of the conference when the teams first met, have compiled a 4-6 record since then including a 62-54 lost at home last Friday to conference co-leader Osseo.

The Pirates who have three players averaging in double digits, are led in the middle by senior center Justin Casey (14 ppg) (pictured below) who had a huge game against Osseo last Friday. He fouled out in the Rebel’s earlier game and finished with 12 points. Also look for their junior point guard Terez Vanpelt to create in the open court. The streaky Pirates should not be taken lightly as they are a very athletic and unpredictable team.

The Rebels, who have four starters averaging double digits, have been moved up to #5 (they were #8 last week) in the state. The Rebels are on a seven game winning streak and have won 13 of their 15 games.

The Rebels who were up 36 - 26 at the half, maintain their 10 point lead and win a very physical game at Maple Grove.

Jordan Reibling (pictured left) and Dillon Hager (pictured below) both knocked down three 3 pointers each in the first half to combine for 20 points as Kyle Zimmermann lived on the free throw line from attacking the basket. The 2nd half belonged to Davis (7) and Duberry (8) as they combined for 15 points.Luckily the Rebels who swept the series this year, won't see the Crimson again this year.

The Rebels (13-4) take their 6 game winning streak to Maple Grove on Friday February 5th for their 2nd conference game with the Crimson.

The Crimson is currently on a three game losing streak with their last win being a 78-66 win over Park Center. The Crimson is lead by senior post player Harrell who is averaging 14 points a game. In the teams last meeting the Rebels defeated the Crimson 64-48 as Brandon Davis scored 12 points with TJ Okafor adding 10 points and 8 rebounds. Look for the Crimson to try and play a physical game and slow down the Rebels.

The Rebels, who are 8-1 in the conference and tied for first place with Osseo (who travels to Park Center), are coming off one of their biggest victories of the year (defeated Anoka 77-43 Wednesday night). The Rebels have won 12 of their last 14 games.

Boys Hoops: Champlin Park atop Northwest Suburban after 77-43 win over Anoka

Conference races across the state are heating up as we head into February, and one of the hottest races is taking place in the Northwest Suburban Conference. The top three teams in the conference- Osseo, Champlin Park, and Anoka- are all ranked in the top 10 in Class 4A. Two of those teams squared off on Wednesday night, and Champlin Park asserted themselves at home with a dominant 77-43 victory over Anoka.

Champlin Park, the winners of five straight coming into the game, started off the game by scoring the first six points. After Anoka's Lomumba Ismail got the Tornadoes on the board, the Rebels scored the next five points to take an 11-2 lead. After an Anoka time out to attempt to gain some momentum, the Rebels stayed hot and extended the lead to 16-2. Champlin's Brandon Davis then put an exclamation point on the run, following up a missed shot with a fierce one-handed dunk. One more Rebel basket made the score 20-2 before Anoka was finally able to get their second field goal.

The Showdown That Never Went Down !

The #5 Anoka Tornadoes traveled to #8 Champlin Park Rebels on Wednesday night with thoughts of jumping into a 2nd place tie with the Rebels and remain 1 game behind Osseo in the league race with a win. The Tornadoes are led by senior post player Lomumba Ismail who is averaging 16 ppg a game and sophomore point guard sensation Marcus Tyus who is averaging 13 ppg.

The game also featured a reunion of sorts as Anoka's Ismail and BJ Sherva played with Champlin Park's Jasper Duberry (pictured) and Kyle Zimmerman last summer for TNL Express.

On to the game and before you can blink, the Rebels jump out to a 6-0 lead all on transition baskets before Tyus gets the Tornadoes on the board. The Rebels continue their dominance as a short hook shot by Josh Pella gives the Rebels an 11-2 lead, timeout Anoka. Right after the timeout, Dillon Hagler cleanly picks Tyus’ at half court and races in for a basket at the 14 minute mark. Which gets us to the play of the game, Pella makes a steal and passes ahead to Brent Walker who misses a layup high off the backboard as Brandon Davis one handed dunks the miss, 18-2 Rebels. The Rebels get another steal that is passed ahead to Hagler for another layup, 20-2 Rebels, timeout again Anoka.

Anoka’s Eric Jordan knocks down a 3 pointer to end the Rebels 14-0 run. TJ Okafor answers as Ismail gets his first basket of the game. Jordan Reibling knocks down a 3 pointer and then on the next possession Ismail loses the ball and while going down court picks up his 2nd foul of the game at half court reaching from behind, 25-8 Rebels at the 9 minute mark. Duberry gets a great follow up tip off a missed jumper and then answers Ismail’s put back with a quick layup, 30-10 Rebels with 5 minutes to go.

Tyus knocks down a 3 pointer in between a basket and nice 3 point play by Pella at the rim when Duberry gets a rebound and quickly dribbles thru the entire Tornado team for another layup, 37-14. Tyus with a break out layup, a Jordan 3 pointer and 2 more Tyus free throws as the Tornadoes finish the half on a 7-0 run to close to 39-21 at the half.

The 2nd half starts with Tornado starters Ismail, Sherva and Tyus on the bench as Davis (pictured above) goes on a 4-0 run, 43-21. The Tornadoes score a couple of baskets that are both answered by a 3 pointer from Duberry and Hagler, 49-25 Rebels as the rest of the Tornadoes starting 5 return with 15 minutes left. Sherva breaks out for a layup 50-27, timeout Anoka with 13 minutes to go.

Mooers breaks out for a layup and is fouled for a 3 point play that is then followed with an Ismail foul as he, Sherva and Tyus go back to the bench with 11 minutes to go, 54-30.

D’Andre Williamson (pictured below) comes off the bench to score 6 quick points as Ismail, Sherva and Tyus return, 59-32 with 8 minutes to go. Zimmermann with a basket, Hagler with his 3rd 3 pointer and the Rebels have now doubled the Anoka score, 64-32. Baskets on four straight possessions by Pella, Okafor, Davis and the another basket by Davis as he attacks the basket for a 3 point play (as Ismail picks up his 4th) and this one looks to be over, 73-36 with 5 minutes left in the game. Both teams clear their benches and we have running time.

The win extends the Rebels winning streak to 6 and brings their conference record to 8-1 for a two way tie with Osseo. The Rebels who have won 12 of their last 14 games are now 12-4 for the year.

The Rebels (12-4) are back home on Wednesday February 3rd to put their 5 game winning streak on the court against top conference rival Anoka for the first time this season.

The Tornadoes were on a six game winning streak and in a three way tie for 1st place with the Rebels and Osseo until they lost at home to Osseo last Friday 61-49. In that game Osseo had a one point halftime lead and pulled away for the win with great team defense.

The Tornadoes are led by senior post player Lomumba Ismail who is averaging 16 points a game and is the 2nd leading rebounder in the conference. The Tornadoes second leading scoring is sophomore sensation Marcus Tyus who runs the show for them and is averaging 13 points a game. The Tornadoes who don’t have a deep bench rely on their top seniors David Mooers (12 ppg) and BJ Sherva (10 ppg) who seems to be the glue of the team.

The Rebels, who are 7-1 in the conference and tied for first place with Osseo (who’s at home against Elk River), need to knock off the Tornadoes to stay in first place. The Rebels had four players score in double digits (led by Davis’ 19 points) in their win Friday against Andover as Dillon Hager had a career high 15 points. The Rebels, who are averaging 71 points a game, have won 11 of their last 13 games.

Andover starts the 2nd half with a run and cut the Rebel lead to 46-37 with 13 minutes to go. The Rebels make a few substitutions and push their lead to 56-39. The Rebels maintain their pace and close this one out as Hager (pictured) has a career high 15 points.

The Rebels (11-4) take their 4 game winning streak on the road Friday January 29th to take on the Andover Huskies (7-6) for the first time this season in conference play.

The Huskies are led by two seniors, post player Jason Schneider and guard Andrew Berndt who are both averaging 15 points a game. Guard Tyler Finnes is adding 14 points a game. The Huskies pushed #7 Anoka to the limit Tuesday night and almost pulled off the upset. Andover was up 5 points with 1:07 to go but was not able to hold on as they lost the shoot out at home 85-82. Andover had four players score in double digits and is now 3-4 in the conference.

The Rebels, who are 6-1 and in a three way tie in the conference for first place, need to win this road game to keep pace with conference leaders Anoka and Osseo who face each other in Anoka on Friday. Our Rebels, who are averaging 71 points a game, are on a four game winning streak and have won 10 of their last 12 games.

Free-throw accuracy boosted Champlin Park as the Rebels held off the Elk River Elks 68-60 on Tuesday evening in Champlin.

The Rebels hit 19 of 25 freebies, including 14-for-18 in the second half, while the Elks were just 2-for-3 in the game. Down the stretch, free throws turned a tight game into an eight-point margin.

Kyle Zimmerman scored 15 points and Jasper Duberry and Brandon Davis 11 each for the Rebels, now 2-5 in the NWSC and 8-7 overall.

Jack Nelson tallied 15 points to lead the Elks. Ben Erickson added 10 points and Menco Yeanay nine.

The Elks, who have lost three of their last five, dipped to 4-3 in the conference and 10- overall. They will host Blaine on Friday evening.

Very close 1st half with Pella picking up two quick fouls, the Elks lead 29-23 with 4 minutes left in the half. The Rebels go on a small run to close to 31-30 at the half behind Hager's and Zimmermann's (pictured) 8 points each.

The 2nd half stays close until Pella breaks out for a dunk and Reibling adds 2 free throws and it looks like the Rebels are about to pull away as they get their first lead of the half 44-43. The Elks answer with 3 of their own when Davis knocks down a 3 to give the Rebels the lead for good at 47-46 with 7 minutes left as the Elks fouls continue to mount. Baskets by Duberry, Davis and Zimmermann push the Rebel’s lead as they take control of the game.

The Rebels continue to knock down free throws and are home free at 61-55 with a minute left. The story of the game was the Rebels free throw shooting as they made 19 of 25, easily their best performance of the year. The Rebel’s who are known for not being productive at the free throw line, can put this myth away with a couple more shooting performances like this. They made 14 of 18 in the 2nd half.

The Rebels got a big lift off their bench from TJ Okafor (pictured) who was huge around the basket. Okafor had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals.

Cougars' boys hoops: rematch with Rebels doesn't come as close

CIRCLE PINES — After a 10-3 first half start against Champlin Park, the Centennial boys basketball team was outpaced by a Rebel squad led by a devastating three-man scoring threat. Losing 72-65 at home Friday, Jan. 22, the Cougars stayed within 13 points for the entire second half, but couldn't close the gap to pick up the redeeming win.

Leading Centennial in scoring for the Northwest Suburban Conference (NWSC) match was Jeffrey Burns and Anthony Gerding with 12 points each, followed by Michael Kuhnly (10).
The Cougars had a chance to make up for their razor-thin 67-65 loss to the Rebels in the Bethel Holiday Tournament championship round in late December. But some late, yet inspired, shooting accuracy by Champlin Park's top players gave them the unmatched edge.
Brandon Davis led the Rebels with 25 points as guard, while Kyle Zimmermann's strong first-half performance led him to finish with 15 points and Jasper Duberry to end with 12 points. They and their teammates found an early comfort zone behind the three-point line, making five in the first half alone.

The Rebels (10-4) take on the Elks (10-3) at home on Tuesday January 26th for the first time this season.

The Elks are led by junior Ben Erickson who is averaging 12 points a game and like the Rebels, play mostly seniors. The Elks started drawing some attention early in the season when they blew out Anoka 90-56. The Elks defeated (4-2 in the conference) Coon Rapids 80-55 last week as we all know Coon Rapids upset the Rebels a couple of weeks ago, however, they did lose to Park Center last week. The Elks started the season doing whole sale changes (five in five out) but have now changed that strategy.

The Rebels, who are 5-1 and in a three way tie in the conference for first place, need this game to keep pace with conference leaders Anoka and Osseo who face each other in Anoka on Friday. Our Rebels, who are averaging 72 points a game, are on a three game winning streak (Brandon Davis had a season high 19 points Friday at Centennial) and have won 9 of their last 11 games.

Tip off at the field house is 7pm.

The Rebels start this one by over passing and have a number of unforced turnovers that lead to easy transition baskets for the Cougars as they take a quick 6 point lead. The Rebels settle down and go on a couple of runs sandwiched around some Davis (pictured) 3 pointers to take a half time lead of 38-31.

The Rebels take care of the ball the 2nd half and build a couple double digit leads that Centennial cut to single digits but don’t have enough to get close until a couple minutes left when they get it to 6. Hager (who started again for Williamson) knocks down a couple of free throws and Centennial misses on three straight possessions as the Rebel close it out.

The Rebels were able to hold Nathan Kuck to 9 points as his shots were not following and Sarvela was limited to 9 points as well. The Cougars were led by Jeff Burns' 12 points.

Great shot selection, passing and shooting from the Rebels as Zimmermann and Davis knock down a number of 3’s. Davis (season high 19 points) who is becoming more comfortable on the wing shot very well and you can see his confidence growing as Zimmermann was Zimmermann (a 15 and 13 double double) around the basket. Duberry (pictured) who scored 12 points probably had one of his better games of the season from a point guard stand point as he continually set up teammates (4 assists) and got the right player the ball in good scoring positions.

The Rebels who are now in a 3 team tie for the conference lead with Anoka and Osseo, pushed their winning streak to 3 and have won 9 of their 11 last games as their next three games are at home.

The Rebels (9-4) fresh off their big win over Osseo Tuesday night take their 2 game winning streak to Centennial on Friday night to take on the Cougars (5-8). The Rebels have won 8 of their last 10 games. The Cougars were upset by Maple Grove Tuesday night as the Crimson got their 1st conference win of the season.

The Cougars who are on a 2 game losing streak are led by sharp shooter Nathan Kuck (15 ppg) and the versatile hard working forward Brian Sarvela (13 ppg).

The Rebels who defeated the Cougars 67-65 in the championship game of the Olive Garden Holiday Tournament in December at Bethel College have split conference games with the Cougars the last two years with the home team winning each game. The Rebels who are averaging 71 points a game have four players averaging double digits.

Tipoff is 7pm.

Osseo Falls to Champlin Park

The Osseo Orioles watched a 40-game home-winning streak end as they were defeated by the Champlin Park Rebels, 61-53. The Rebels led at half-time 34-24 and the Orioles could never competely close the gap in the second half.
Osseo pulled within four points with six minutes remaining, but Champlin Park was able to hold the Orioles off. Head coach Tim Theisen commented, "Champlin is a tough physical team. You never want to lose on your home court where you practice everyday and where your fans are; it was a tough loss. I know are kids will learn from the game and work hard to improve and that is what we ask as coaches."

Rebels end Osseo's home streak, 61-53

The scoreboard didn't malfunction, which was a legitimate concern inside Osseo High School Tuesday, Jan. 18.

It had been nearly four years since the visiting side had outscored the Orioles in a boys basketball game, a streak that reached 40 games after Osseo beat Duluth East by six the previous Saturday.

But Tuesday it ended, as Champlin Park handed fifth-ranked Osseo its first home loss since a March of 2006 with a 61-53 Northwest Suburban Conference victory.

"We talked about it all week," said Champlin Park head coach Mark Tuchscherer. "We wanted to be the team that ended their streak, and the boys came through."

Seniors Josh Pella and Kyle Zimmerman delivered the collective knockout blow, combing for 26 points and 24 rebounds.

The Rebels End Osseo's Home Streak

The Rebels headed into the Orioles nest with the possibility of being the conference leader’s 41st home victory victims. The Orioles were riding a four year 40 game winning streak and had defeated the Rebels at least twice a season for the last five years.

To the game we go. First obvious thing you notice is that the Rebels have replaced post player D’Andre Williamson in the starting lineup with off guard Dillon Hager (pictured). Osseo who doesn’t possess a large front line, make this CP move look like a strategic one and not as big as it looks until Hager knocks down a 3 pointer for the Rebels first points of the game.

The Rebels and Orioles continually trade baskets until CP’s Jordan Reibling knocks down a 3 pointer and Zimmermann gets a basket to push the Rebels to their largest lead before the Orioles John Rowland knocks down a 3 to get Osseo within four points at 20-16 with ten minutes left in the half.

After a number of questionable fouls on both teams, we are at 22-17 CP with 7 minutes left as both teams struggle to figure out the officiating. Pella attacks the basket and is fouled; he makes 1 of 2 for a CP 25-18 lead with 5 minutes to go. Duberry with a long cross court pass to Davis who knocks down a 3 which is answered with a quick foul on Anderson who knocks down both throws with 2 minutes left. Hager with a floater at the buzzer and the Rebels have their largest lead of the game to end the 1st half 34-24.

All season long half times have been the most interesting times for the Rebels as they have held the lead in every game that they have lost this year. This one gets a new twist as the Orioles don’t return early enough to warm up and just take the court to start the 2nd half.

The Orioles increase their defensive intensity and quickly force the Rebels into forced and unforced turnovers. The teams trade baskets as it seems the Rebels get a couple of questionable calls. The Orioles pound the glass for a couple of put backs and go on a 8-4 run to close the CP lead to 38-32 with 13 minutes left, timeout CP.

The Rebels settle down after the timeout, come back in a 2-3 zone and get baskets from Zimmermann, Pella and Duberry for a CP 45-38 lead with 8 minutes left as Anderson is surprisingly called for a charge at half court. The Rebels miss a number of shots but continue to get rebounds until they score on a Davis 3 pointer, 48-42 with 6 minutes to go. The Orioles struggle to make shots from the perimeter and twice had two possessions in which they passed the ball around for close to 2 minutes trying to find a shot. And did not convert on either possession.

Pella and Zimmermann baskets pushes the lead to 54-44 with 3 minutes left, timeout Osseo. The Rebels keep missing shots but keep coming up with rebounds as they out hustle the Orioles for loose balls and the only difference over the next 2 minutes is a Rebel free throw, 55-44 CP with 1 minute left and it looks like this one is over.

Pella (pictured) led the Rebels with 15 points to bring Osseo’s 40 game home winning streak to an end. This incredible home winning streak started back in the 2006 season. More importantly is that the Rebels moved into a 1st place conference tie with the Orioles.

The Rebels hit the road on Tuesday to take on cross town powerhouse Osseo for a big NWSC game. The Orioles, who are 4-0 and the only undefeated team left in the conference, look to continue their five year dominance over the Rebels who are 3-1 in the conference.

The Orioles are led by senior point guard Aaron Anderson (13 points game & pictured) and forward John Rowland (12 points a game). The Orioles currently have four players scoring in double digits a game. The Orioles also feature 8th grader Ian Theisen who has played in all 12 of the Orioles games and is averaging 4 points a game. The Orioles defeated Duluth East 70-64 Saturday in a nonconference game to push their current winning streak to six games.

The Rebels bounced back from their disappointing lost last Tuesday at Coon Rapids to throttle Blaine 61-39 at home last Thursday night as Brandon Davis knocked down four 3 pointers to finish with 15 points.

Davis's Threes Get The Rebels Back On Track

The Rebels come out poised and look like they are ready to bring their 2 game losing streak to an end. The Rebels spread the floor and move the ball very well as all five starters score as Davis knocks down a couple of 3’s. Blaine’s junior post player Zach Romashko is pretty much unstoppable as his play around the basket and two 3 pointers from sophomore Duke Anywanu keeps Blaine close, 28-22 Rebels at the half.

The Rebels step up their defensive pressure the 2nd half and go on a couple of runs that force Blaine timeouts. Davis knocks down a couple more 3’s (4 for 5 for the game) and the route is on. The Rebels looked very efficient and focused as four starters hit double digits.

After a road conference lost to Coon Rapids in OT on Tuesday, the Rebels are back home to play the Blaine Bengals and will be trying to snap a two game losing streak.

The Bengals (3-7) are led by junior Zach Romashko who is averaging 20 points a game along with senior guard Jesse Briggity’s 14 points a game.

The Bengals, who defeated Coon Rapids 57-43 on January 8th, make this an interesting game.

Hopkins rallies past Champlin Park at Timberwolves Shootout

Losses of any kind have been rare for the Hopkins boys basketball program for the past few years. After losing to Minneapolis North Friday, the Royals needed a rally to avoid making it two losses in a row on back-to-back days.

A good Champlin Park team took a 10-point lead into halftime of their matchup with Hopkins in the Timberwolves Shootout at Target Center.

Hopkins responded with a 26-4 run to start the second half and ultimately pulled out a 74-69 win over the Rebels.

Joe Coleman led Hopkins with 24 points, while Marvin Singleton added 20.

Jasper Duberry scored 17 and Josh Pella scored 14 for Champlin Park.
