For 18 minutes of basketball inside the what is the mecca of hoops facilities in Minnesota, Champlin Park had the most decorated high school basketball program in the state situated firmly on the ropes.

Then, almost in one decisive motion, the Rebels were cold-clocked right out of downtown Minneapolis.

Champlin Park built a first half lead that, at one point, reached 14 points in its 2010 Timberwolves Shootout match-up with the defending state champs from Hopkins. The lead was 10 at the break, and back to 12 after the first possession of the second half.

But before the Rebels would score again, Hopkins netted 16 points to begin a run in which the Royals would outscore Champlin Park 30-6 in a game that would go to Hopkins by a final count of 74-69.

It was quick, it was decisive, and it was precisely why the Royals have won four state championships in the past eight years.
