Hopkins 79 vs. Thomas Jefferson 65

LIVE BLOG -- Nike Super Six Invitational
The boys from Minnesota with two quick buckets and lead it 4-0.

9:10 p.m. -- Royce White with a putback and foul for Hopkins, which leads 8-2 with 5:11 left in the first quarter. He already has six.

9:12 p.m. -- White gets to the basket again for two more and he just slammed home a putback with authority and probably could make the argument for a 3-point play. The Minnesota-bound big man is dominating early on. He has 10 points and Hopkins leads it 12-4 with 4:05 left in the first quarter.

9:14 p.m. -- Apparently its a Minnesota slam party. White throws down two more after Trent Lockett goes baseline for the entertaining dunk.

9:16 p.m. -- Kman, thanks for the comment. The announcer just made a statement to that effect, something like "these guys came from Minnesota and you didn't know they could ball, did you?" I'm convinced.

9:17 p.m. -- Lockett with another huge dunk and Jefferson needs to talk it over again. Hopkins leads 19-8 with 1:44 left in the first quarter.

9:20 p.m. -- DJ Peterson from downtown and Hopkins has extended its lead to 24-9 with one minute left in the first quarter.

9:21 p.m. -- I can't say I did a lot of homework on Hopkins. But any team that is undefeated, has four Division I players, including the likely the Mr. Minnesota, on their roster, they deserve instant respect no matter where they call home.

9:23 p.m. -- And that is the end of a deflating first quarter if you are a Jefferson fan. Hopkins leads it 26-13 after eight minutes.

9:26 p.m. -- Well, I guess Minnetonka found the blog! Thanks for the kind words and for checking in. As for the TV question, sadly just the second game was televised (ESPN2). But I will try and provide as much information as possible.

9:28 p.m. -- White just took Joel (Air Jamaica) Wright off the dribble and kissed in another two points. He now has 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field.

9:30 p.m. -- Wright, who recently verballed to Fordham, with a bucket inside but its clear that he is frustrated. Jefferson is a proud team so they're not going to give up, but Hopkins is probably the best team they've faced all year. And yes, I'm including Lincoln in that statement.

9:32 p.m. -- Cowels from downtown, but Jefferson gets back-to-back buckets to get within 12, 36-24, with 4:00 left.

9:33 p.m. -- White is fouled and after missing the first free throw, he hits the second. Hopkins leads 37-24 with 3:47 left in the first half.

9:38 p.m. --
Jefferson cut its deficit to nine, but Cowels buries a 3-pointer, his second of the first half, and Hopkins leads 40-28 with 2:25 remaining in the first half.

9:39 p.m. -- This surely won't mean much to our newfound audience from up north, but Christ the King edged Holy Cross, 64-60, in Middle Village.

9:40 p.m. -- Cowels with another 3-ball. Hopkins is shooting 51.5 percent from the field. Cowels shows he is human by missing a foul line jumper. But he gets to the basket and goes to the foul line. He hits both and Hopkins leads, 45-31, with one minute left in the first half.

9:42 p.m. --
Corwin Austin goes to the line for Jefferson, knocks down both and Jefferson trails 45-33 with 44 seconds remaining in the first half.

9:43 p.m. -- Cowels with another jumper to increase his total to 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field. On the other end, Wright is fouled. He hits both, increasing his team-high total to 12 points.

9:45 p.m. -- It's halftime and it is all Hopkins, which leads 47-35 at the break. Leading the way for the Royals is White, who has a game-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field and Cowels has 13. Wright has 12 on 4-of-4 shooting from the field for Jefferson, Marcus Romain has nine and Davontay Grace has seven. Keith Spellman has just two points on 1-of-5 shooting.

10:00 p.m. -- Second half has started and Cowels has picked up where he left off with his fourth 3-pointer of the game. Hopkins leads 50-39 with 6:29 left in the third.

And I guess I owe you guys an apology. I was just going with the town listed in the program. I didn't realize it would cause such a stir!
10:01 p.m. -- White goes with a tomahawk dunk and extends the Royals lead to 52-39 with 5:53 left in the third.

10:06 p.m. -- Cowels yet another trey and follows it up with another bucket. He now has 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Pollard is ripping into his team and has sat his entire starting five. Hopkins leads 61-45 with 2:33 left in the third.

10:13 p.m. -- It seems like Hopkins is just toying with Jefferson at this point. White to the line, which is where he shows he is at least human. He is now 4-of-11 from the charity stripe and Hopkins leads 65-52 after three quarters.

Cowels has a game-high 23 points, White has 20 and Lockett has 10 for the Royals, while Jefferson is led by Wright (18 points) and Grace (15).

10:23 p.m. -- It is all over but the shouting. Hopkins leads it 66-52 with 5:17 remaining. It's a breath of fresh air to watch the Royals play, a team with so many weapons that is so unselfish.

10:27 p.m. -- Kman, it's all good. Just having some fun. Wright, the Orange Wave's best player tonight, fouls out with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting. White knocks down both free throws and Hopkins leads it 70-56 with 4:07 left. A "Hopkins Royals" chant echos in Rose Hill Gym.

10:30 p.m. -- Lockett already left the game and now Brogham is the lone starter in the game for the Royals. Hopkins 74-59 with 2:39 remaining.

10:32 p.m. -- Actually Lockett is still in the game as evidence of another acrobatic dunk. Marvin Singleton with the putback and foul. Hopkins by 20 now, 79-59, with 1:05 left.

10:37 p.m.
-- This one is done and Hopkins wins it going away, 79-65. Cowels led the way for undefeated Hopkins with 25 points, knocking down 5-of-8 from 3-point range. White added 22 points and Lockett had 12. Wright had 18 points, Romain had 16 and Grace added 15 for Jefferson.

The Orange Wave will have Saturday to rest up before taking on Lincoln in the Brooklyn boro championship (Nike Super Six loser's bracket) at Long Island University Sunday.

That will do it from the Nike Super Six. Be sure to join me again tomorrow at noon for the opening day of the Primetime Shootout from Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, N.J.
