(posted 02-21-2009)

* Andover 60, Champlin Park 59

Brett Tester goes for 17 leading a balanced effort from Andover beating CP. Champlin has hit a rough patch at the wrong time of the season losing four of their last five games. Interesting patter fro the Rebels has been the 2-4 start, the stretch of winning ten of eleven, and now the current string resulting on a 13-9 record. They have four regular season games to go to reclaim the magic and it consists of winnable games against Coon Rapids, Anoka, Park Center, and Anoka. The Rebels have to be prepared for a section that includes Osseo, Cooper, and Mounds View.
Andover is recovering from a seven game losing streak to win four of five. And they play in the infamous section 7AAAA so anything’s possible in terms of a state trip.

* Benilde-St. Margaret's 77, Spring Lake Park 74, OT - Peter Crawford is trying to go but the foot is still ailing so he sits this out. The Red Knights win a big game without him in the extra session. Darren Glover with 17, junior Seth Marx with a game high 18 and either Myles Barnes or the younger Battle brother scored 15 points tonight.

* Bloomington Jefferson 75, Eagan 71 - The PG of the future Marcus Alipate scores 23 in this Jefferson victory. Only a sophomore let’s remember.

* Edina 77, Armstrong 62 - Jim Hill scores 26 and Edina’s a little bit bigger team than I thought they were. This team could be that surprise state semi-finalist, or even finalist?

* Hancock 57, Henning 51 - I though Mr. Perfect would be tough but not tough enough for Big Willie.

* Hopkins 102, Columbia Heights 68 - This game brings Colorado State coach Tim Miles into town as well as NDSU assistant David Richman. They want to know how did Jacob Thomas look against the stars? Thomas scored 27 points hoisting three handfuls of treys. I’m sure the coaches also had to get a look see at the younger Hopkins players led by the 15 points from D.J. Peterson. Trent Lockett scored a game high 23.

* Lake Park-Audubon 68, Ulen-Hitterdal 25 - Ulen-Hitterdal!!!! You can’t go just 25 on the Audubon, wach you thinkin?

* Marshall 52, Worthington 50 - There was a big game winner at the buzzer in Marshall! A lay-up by James Petrich off the Tyler Gimmestad dish gave the Tigers the win in front of a packed house. This was a huge section win as Marshall has now beaten Worthington and Willmar meaning they deserve the two seed behind Kato West.

* Mpls. Washburn 100, Mpls. Henry 65 - Jordan Hughes looks to be back on the floor scoring 11 points unless that was typo in the boxscore. Doesn’t matter as Washburn clinches the city with a blowout win. Ced Martin scores a game high 24 points and the Burn has to much depth.

* Minnehaha Academy 83, New London-Spicer 69 - A little surprised buy this score with Minnehaha winning by double figures on the road. The Academy is a legit state title contender and a game like this shows that. Their seniors are very tough led by the 23 points from Taylor Sparkman and the 25 from Greg Meyer. So was this a bad game for New London-Spicer? Are they good but not great this year? It will be interesting to see come March. Jay Moten led them with 18.

* Minnesota Valley Lutheran 77, Redwood Valley 71 - This game came down to late free throws and Galen Holzhueter made all eight of his in the final minute to close things out for the winning Chargers. Holzhueter scored a game high 34 while Mike Felt was held to only 20 for Redwood Valley. Sophomore J.T. Radel led the Cardinals with 24 points. Remember that name.

* Park Christian 85, Breckenridge 82 F/OT - A classic outstate game goes to overtime and Park Christian comes away with the three point win. Kyle Ulstad with a big time performance for Park Christian. The 6-foot-3 senior scored 20 of his career-high 37 points in the final six minutes of regulation and overtime. He completely took the game over on every possession. Kyle also totaled 14 boards.

This big time performance almost didn’t happen. The Cowboys had free throws with two seconds left to go in regulation but missed both and the game went to OT. Dylan Summerville scores 24 for Breckenridge while Joe Terfehr put up 20. BTW, these two are juniors and quite talented at that.

• St. Cloud Tech 69, St. Cloud Apollo 67 - How incredible is Nate Wolters? I believe this was his fourth game winner of the year in the final moments of play? With 1.2 seconds on the clock Nate hits an 18-footer with defense all over him. Nate scored 36 points and that has to assure him a seat on the final five of Mr. Basketball. He’s an incredible talent who has hit more game winners than any high school player that I ever recall.

In a losing effort Andre Gartth goes for 18 points, ten boards, and four assists. All reports out of St. Cloud seem to lean to Apollo really letting this game slip away late and they gave a chance to Wolters and you can’t do that.

• Sebeka 73, Bertha-Hewitt 50 - How about this score? Number one Bertha-Hewitt goes down hard for the first time this year. Joey Cupherus and company take it to em. So who is number one now? MN Transitions? GHEC?

• Triton 73, Cannon Falls 68 - Strong win for the Cobras over a hot Cannon Falls team. Watch this Triton group hissing out of the south. They have as good of a chance at making state as anybody in section play.
